Three of Blaenavon’s main employers have made generous donations of almost £2,500 to ensure local residents in need had emergency food parcels over Easter weekend.
Forged Solutions (formerly Doncasters), P&P Builders and GOS Tool & Engineering Services presented the Town Council with the funding to allow us to buy groceries and distribute them from the council offices.
After discovering the council had recently supported the struggling local food bank, Forged Solutions' Senior Management Team contacted Cllr Alan Jones to offer the company’s assistance.
Cllr Jones then got in touch with the two other businesses, who also agreed to get on board with their kind contributions.
Alan said: “After a short notice delivery the previous Friday evening, I realised that with hard pressed food banks closed over the Easter period, there could be a gap in provision.
“Working with our local industry partners, councillors and council staff were able to provide an emergency provision to address the potential gap and support our most vulnerable residents at this difficult time.”
The remainder of the money will be used to support other local needs as and when required. For example, this week the Medical Practice told Cllr Jones it was running short of antibacterial hand gel for the use of visitors, and the council authorised the purchase of 25 litres at a cost of £168.
Mayor Cllr Jac Denley Jones said: “The Council has strong links with local businesses and was delighted by their support in helping us to deliver parcels to those in most need during a time of great anxiety to many.”
